Cole and Makaila Daeschel grew up immersed in their father’s loving career of cultivation. From a tender age, they were invariably by his side, watering, transplanting, fertilizing, sowing seed, and eventually selling plants at local farmers’ markets. Watching their parents, Joel and Marie Daeschel, build a business based on providing the public with local, climate appropriate plants that were sustainable, gave them a lasting sense of the importance of the work. When Joel Daeschel fell ill and tragically passed away in the middle of the 2016 season, Makaila and her husband, Rob, were able to step in, and bring the family business to a successful conclusion.
This year, Cole Daeschel has taken up the mantle of leadership. With the support of his wife, Colleen, Cole is not only continuing, but expanding his father’s original operations: updating equipment, building another greenhouse in Stanley, and adding the Eldorado Farmers’ Market to the original footprint.
The entire family has rallied around Cole and his efforts to continue the Cedar Grove tradition. We all look forward to seeing just how green the Daeschel blood runs.
